local gems at the Traditional Art & Ethnology Centre and cool
off in the turquoise Kuang Si Falls. Day 9 Vang Vieng Admire
dramatic limestone cliffs, jump on a mountain bike, clamber
into nearby caves or float in refreshing waterholes. Days 10-
11 Vientiane Spend some time exploring laidback Vientiane
and head down to a riverside restaurant to savour a golden
Mekong sunset. Day 12 Lak Sao Revel in a striking montage
of mountain, forest and karst scenery while travelling east
to Lak Sao. Days 13-15 Hanoi End the journey in Vietnam’s
enigmatic capital, but not before browsing the Old Quarter
for some last-minute gastronomic delights.

ITINERARY... Day 1 Hanoi Arrive in Hanoi and notice how
shaded boulevards, parks and blocks of ochre buildings tell
stories of a French-colonial past, while still humming with
the buzz of a modern city. Jump straight into the fray by
exploring the tangle of city streets, taking the opportunity
to see Hanoi’s pagoda-studded lake. Day 2 Vinh Spend a
night in a small port town. Days 3-4 Vientiane Slow down
to the pace of Vientiane, and perhaps wind up at a restaurant
overlooking the Mekong. Days 5-7 Vang Vieng Be wowed by
the picture postcard setting of Vang Vieng, and perhaps dive
into the river to escape the heat. Days 8-10 Luang Prabang
Make tracks to lovely Luang Prabang and instantly readjust to
its supremely relaxed pace. Take a jumbo out to the gorgeous
Kuang Si Falls, hire a bike and cruise around leafy backstreets
or ascend to the top of Phu Si Temple for magical sunset
views before hitting the night market. Day 11 Mekong River
Float gently down the Mekong, travelling alongside local
passengers and docking at the small town of Pak Beng for
the night. Day 12 Chiang Khong Cruise further down the
Mekong River and arrive at the Thai border. Days 13-14
Chiang Mai Head further inland to Chiang Mai, home to over
300 temples, a stack of day spas and a vibrant night market.
Before tour’s end, learn the basics of Muay Thai kickboxing or
take a softer approach at the colourful flower market.

of Kunming, the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ . Day 2 Jinghong
Fly to Jinghong and spend the afternoon exploring the
jade markets, swimming in the Mekong or perhaps cycling
to minority villages on the outskirts of town. Days 3-4
Village Trek Walk through rice paddies and hilltribe
villages before spending a memorable night in a Bulang
house, welcomed as a privileged guest. Day 5 Jinghong
Trek through dramatic countryside to the village of Bada,
stopping to cool off under a waterfall before returning to
Jinghong. Days 6-7 Luang Nam Tha Arrive in Laos and
discover emerald rice paddies and ethnically diverse villages
surrounding Luang Nam Tha. Relax amid the daily hum of life
or explore this breathtaking region on two-wheels. Days 8-10
Luang Prabang Head into the hills of northern Laos en route
to Luang Prabang. Get acquainted with the city’s magical
atmosphere on a walking tour and perhaps rise at dawn
to see monks receiving alms. Days 11-12 Vang Vieng If
feeling adventurous, take the chance to discover the many
limestone caves that lie within the hills surrounding Vang
Vieng. Days 13-14 Vientiane Visit the towering ‘Victory Gate’,
Wat Sisaket, or meander down dusty riverside tracks and find
villages full of friendly locals. Day 15 Bangkok End the trip
amid the bright lights and bustling traffic of Bangkok.
